"Hot" on the heels of last week's world premiere of the 2010 Mustang in LA, Ford announced that in cooperation with Mattel, it will launch the 1/64 Hot Wheels version of its redesigned muscle car. The most affordable 2010 Mustang up to date weighs in at less than a pound and is just short of 3-inches long, compared to the full-size car, which tips the scale at arround 3,500 pounds and measures more than 15 feet in length. Ford said that the toy car is expected to hit retail stores on Dec. 1, 2008. Of course, those of you that have been paying attention to our postings probably remember that the 2010 'Stang Hot Wheels had found its way into the market through eBay well before the presentation of the actual car...
"Cars like the Mustang are a natural for Hot Wheels," said Alec Tam, director of Design, Hot Wheels. "We choose cars based on their ability to meet our brand values, which are speed, power, performance and attitude. Mustang hits all four of those points.
"We share Ford's CAD (Computer-Aided Design) data, but we reinterpret it into a format that works for us because there is a lot of extraneous information that we don't necessarily need for a 1/64 model -- like a headlight lens or a door handle or a trim piece," Tam added.
