Carlos Ghosn Elected President of European Automobile Manufacturers' Association

The titles just keep on coming in for Carlos Ghosn who has been elected by the Board of Directors of ACEA, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association, as its new President. Carlos Ghosn, CEO and President of Nissan since 2000 and 2001 respectively as well as CEO of Renault from 2005, will take over from Christian Streiff, CEO of PSA Peugeot Citroen, on 1 January 2009. After the announcement of his election as ACEA President Ghosn said that his priorities during his term will be focusing on the need for more low-emission vehicles and dealing with the problems caused in the industry by the economic recession.

"The global automotive industry is facing two significant challenges with a severe financial meltdown twinned with an economic recession, and a major transition to low-emission vehicles. In this context, an effective dialogue with EU institutions and governments is more important than ever", said Carlos Ghosn.

"It is vital that our industry can keep fulfilling its key role in Europe in terms of growth, investments, employment and technological leadership."
