Toyota Europe’s President Tadashi Arashima has unveiled that the Japanese carmaker will launch 18 brand new or updated models in the European market by the end of 2009 all of which will boast improved fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions. The announcement was made during the Automotive News Europe Congress in Turin Italy. Arashima said that vehicles emitting less than 140 grams of CO2 per km accounted for 30 percent of Toyota’s sales last year, an improvement of 5 percent over 2006. However, once the carmaker introduces all 18 models in its range by the end of 2009 they will account for about 50 per cent of Toyota’s annual European sales.
